Japan Sport Council has announced the winner of the international competition for the New National Stadium Japan with a budget of over $1 billion. Awarded to the U.K.’s Zaha Hadid Architects, the new 80,000-seat stadium will replace the existing Kasumigaoka National Stadium in Tokyo and will be a key focus of Tokyo’s bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games, as well as house the Rugby World Cup in 2019.
